Will using a curling iron cause scars?

Patient's question:

I got a burn from a curling iron, and it peeled. The child is around four or five years old, and it's been three days since the burn. When it first happened, we applied some kind of moisturizing cream, and I'm worried it might leave a scar because it's on the face.

Doctor's answer:

Local skin burn, epidermal detachment, classified as a second-degree burn, which can be either deep or superficial. If the wound base is moist and red, with significant exudate and clear pain, it is classified as a superficial second-degree wound. Without infection, it generally heals within two weeks, leaving no scars. If the wound base is red and white, with less pain, it is classified as a deep second-degree wound. It typically requires 3-4 weeks to heal, leaving scars, and post-healing scar treatment is necessary.
