Features: This book originates from the " American Civilization History Series Lectures" delivered by Rorty in 1997. Rorty is consistently passionate and confident throughout the book, aiming to inspire American left-wing intellectuals to actively participate in domestic affairs, rekindle their enthusiasm, and restore balance to American cultural life. Rorty traces the intellectual achievements of the old left before the 1960s, evaluates the successes and failures of the cultural left since the 1960s, and points out that intellectuals should make more down-to-earth efforts to "build our country" and pursue the founding ideals of America.
