Is there harm in doing a CT scan for premature infants?

Patient's question:

Cesarean section, the doctor said the child had severe asphyxia at birth and poor lung development. How will the child's condition progress, and what is the chance of healthy discharge? If the child undergoes a CT scan, will it be harmful? If it is possible, what is the best time to do it?

Doctor's answer:

Hello. For babies born prematurely and too small by several weeks, the prognosis is not very good. Guidance on potential sequelae: Asphyxia and hypoxia at birth can lead to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Additionally, prematurely born infants with underdeveloped lungs are prone to respiratory distress syndrome. If respiratory failure occurs through cesarean section, a head computerized tomography scan should be performed to check for brain hemorrhage or hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Active treatment should not be delayed in obtaining the CT. It has no impact on the child.
