Features: In modern design practice, designers utilize various techniques to create printed materials that can efficiently convey information. During the process of constructing design characteristics and disseminating information, layout arrangement, typography, color, and images are all very crucial factors. However, people often overlook the essential element of design—specifications. Due to the emergence of too many existing specifications, coupled with some designers directly applying existing templates, specification design is often neglected by designers. In reality, however, specifications are closely related to readers—they greatly influence the reading experience. Our understanding of specifications is mainly due to the development of human environmental. For example: poster sizes are made larger so that readers can obtain information from a distance; stamp sizes are set to match the size of the envelope's adhesive area; book sizes are determined within the printable size range and are convenient for readers to carry. Although printed materials are often pre-set with specific dimensions, shapes, and thicknesses, designers still frequently use specifications to further distinguish them. However, designers still use specifications and dimensions to highlight the differences between books. This book introduces various aspects of specification design, primarily narrating each specific topic within each chapter. Each chapter cites many creative works from leading design studios around the world. The author uses these works to explain the underlying factors behind the design.
