Can balanitis be treated?

Patient's question:

I have balanitis for six days now, and it's just a bit red at the connection between the foreskin and the head of the penis. It itches at night but not during the day. Yesterday, I went to the local big hospital.

Doctor's answer:

Hello: The cause of your symptoms, such as infectious ones, is often due to sexual activity, which can transmit Candida, trichomoniasis, chlamydia, mycoplasma, gonococcal bacteria, or other bacteria. Alternatively, it may be caused by excessive foreskin, insufficient hygiene, or the accumulation of unclean substances between the foreskin and glans, known as smegma, which can irritate the local foreskin and mucosa, leading to inflammation again. In fact, having balanitis is not at all. Patients should believe that they can overcome the illness. As long as symptoms are detected in time and treated accordingly, the chances of stabilizing the condition and recovering are very high.
