What are the causes of benign prostatic hyperplasia?

Patient's question:

Doctor, hello. My father is very weak and has always had difficulty urinating. He is afraid of troubling his children and grandchildren, so he doesn't say anything.

Doctor's answer:

Prostate hyperplasia, also known as fibrosis. The symptoms are primarily manifested in two groups: one is bladder irritation symptoms; the other is obstructive symptoms caused by fibrotic prostate blocking the urinary tract. Bladder irritation symptoms: frequent urination, urinary urgency, increased nocturia, and urge incontinence. Frequent urination is an early sign of prostate hyperplasia, especially when the number of nocturia episodes continues to increase, which holds more clinical significance. Weak urine stream, thin urine stream, and dribbling: Due to the blockage of the fibrotic prostate, patients need to exert more force to overcome the resistance during urination, making it difficult to urinate; the fibrotic prostate compresses the urethra, causing the urine stream to become thin; as the condition progresses, symptoms such as intermittent urination and dribbling after urination may also reappear.
