How to deal with itching on the glans?

Patient's question:

I've been feeling severe itching between my legs and have some unclear red spots on my glans. I haven't had any unprotected sex, haven't had sexual intercourse, and haven't been to public baths or anything like that. How could this be happening? Moreover, I take baths and change my underwear daily, but sometimes the itching is so painful. I'm really afraid I might have some kind of disease.

Doctor's answer:

The itchy glans may be due to balanitis, which is usually caused by bacterial infection, humid climate, and poor personal hygiene. This can lead to the transmission of balanitis, resulting in itchy glans symptoms. It could also be a case of skin allergy, although this is less common. However, many men have phimosis, where the foreskin is too long. Due to phimosis, there is smegma under the foreskin, which contains a large amount of bacteria. When the climate becomes humid, it can cause itchy glans.
