Does ADHD in children have anything to do with diet?

Patient's question:

The son usually loves to eat and is not picky about food, which has led to his current obesity. Recently, I've noticed that he's been quite disobedient and doesn't focus when I talk to him. After searching online, I found that it might be ADHD. I'm not sure if it's related to his diet.

Doctor's answer:

Dietary structure is a significant factor in children's ADHD. In children with ADHD, half are sensitive to high-sugar diets, while the other half are sensitive to artificial colors, wheat, dairy products, and cocoa products. Children should avoid eating from lead-containing utensils and reduce the intake of lead-containing foods such as popcorn, century eggs, shellfish, red shrimp, lettuce, and lead-contaminated vegetables (most of which are contaminated). A high-sugar diet can lead to insufficient catecholamines and other neurotransmitters, which can result in ADHD.
