Features: Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, also known as Rehabilitation Medicine, is an emerging discipline that has gradually developed on the basis of physical medicine. It is an applied medical science with the primary goal of restoring function. In recent years, with the transformation of the medical model, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Rehabilitation Medicine) has experienced rapid development and has become one of the four major components of modern medical science. The establishment of the discipline of Physical Medicine in China began in the early 1930s of the 20th century and saw rapid development in the 1950s. The concept of modern Rehabilitation Medicine was introduced in the early 1980s, and after more than 20 years of practice, it has been proven that Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is an indispensable part of modern medicine. Due to economic development, the increasing number of elderly people and patients with chronic diseases, as well as the rising incidence of disability-causing diseases, the demand for functional recovery has become more prominent. At the same time, with the improvement of living standards, people's expectations for health and quality of life have also been continuously raised. Therefore, to the greatest extent possible, meeting people's needs and improving the level of rehabilitation medicine have become urgent tasks. As a result, compiling the "Operational Standards" for this discipline to standardize medical practices is one of the important steps to strengthen discipline construction and improve discipline standards. Under the unified deployment of the Ministry of Health and under the leadership of the Chinese Medical Association, the Branch of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the Chinese Medical Association, in combination with the characteristics and actual conditions of the discipline, organized a group of backbone physicians with rich experience and high professional levels working at the forefront of clinical practice. After more than two years of hard work, extensive opinions were solicited, repeated revisions were made, and the book was reviewed and approved by high-level experts, completing the "Operational Standards." This will play a positive role in improving the professional level of medical personnel in this field, ensuring medical quality, and promoting the development of the discipline. Here, we sincerely hope that the publication of this "Operational Standards" will contribute to improving the medical level of this discipline, standardizing diagnostic and treatment operations, and advancing the development of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in China to a new level. We also sincerely hope that everyone will study it carefully, continuously summarize experience in medical practice, identify problems, and propose suggestions for improvement, so that the "Operational Standards" can be continuously enriched and refined.
