Features: The title of this book is unique. "Plan" refers to a pre-prepared scheme. The main content and purpose of the plan are pre-hospital emergency care, which means that when a patient develops a disease or suffers an injury on-site, grassroots medical personnel and professional pre-hospital emergency workers should know what to do when faced with sudden critical emergencies. How to quickly and accurately assess the condition, and how to take the most suitable emergency measures to save the patient's life or minimize the loss. As the saying goes, "Preparedness prevents misfortune." Only by being well-prepared for sudden critical emergencies and their prevention and treatment measures can one remain calm and act systematically in difficult and complex situations, maximizing the chances of saving the patient's life. The content of pre-hospital emergency care plans mainly includes two parts: the preparation of specific rescue procedures. This book introduces the basic diagnostic steps and treatment methods for pre-hospital rescue of critical emergencies and presents them in a clear and concise flowchart format, aiming to give readers a comprehensive overview of the diagnostic and rescue steps. The second is theoretical preparation. It explains the basic medical knowledge and theories that emergency responders should understand and master, which are closely related to critical emergency rescue. This book provides detailed and accessible explanations. Additionally, an important part of this book is the introduction of methods for assessing the severity of various emergencies on-site. First, it confirms whether the patient's life is threatened, analyzes the severity of the situation, and quantifies it, which is the premise for taking correct measures and an important step in protecting the patient's life and improving the outcome.
What is pre-hospital emergency care? A simple answer like "rescuing patients before they go to the hospital" is too simplistic. Such a response is obvious to everyone. The difference between pre-hospital and in-hospital emergency care is not just about time and location. Rescuing sudden critical emergency patients on-site differs significantly from doing so in a hospital. First, the environment is different. Pre-hospital emergency care conditions vary greatly, from the setting to lighting to various distractions, and cannot be compared to a hospital. Second, the number of personnel is different. During pre-hospital emergency care, responders often work alone, lacking guidance and advice from senior doctors, as well as collaboration, discussion, and exploration with peers. Third, the equipment is different. Pre-hospital care lacks complex and expensive examination and treatment equipment, with at most a portable ECG machine.
How do emergency doctors work under these special conditions, rescue patients, and protect themselves? This is the essence of pre-hospital emergency care and the issue this book explores. Therefore, the on-site examinations and emergency methods introduced in this book do not require large-scale equipment or complex instruments, and can be performed by ordinary emergency responders on-site. There are many types of emergencies, some of which require on-site emergency care, while others have no significant meaning whether pre-hospital care is provided or not. The emergencies introduced in this book belong to the former category. Emergencies without clear pre-hospital care significance, no matter how severe, are outside the scope of this book. Therefore, the core of this book is the indications, related measures, and corresponding basic theories of pre-hospital emergency care.
The target readers of this book are professional pre-hospital emergency care personnel, general practitioners, medical workers working in communities, grassroots health stations, clinics, and private practitioners. In short, any medical staff who can suddenly face emergency patients and provide on-site rescue outside large hospitals can be readers of this book.
Pre-hospital emergency care is a relatively young discipline in emergency medicine, but its role often determines a patient's life. Many patients lose their lives unnecessarily because they did not receive proper pre-hospital emergency care, which is a pity. Currently, there are few senior talents specializing in pre-hospital emergency care research, and there are also few specialized monographs on the topic, which is another pity.
The author has worked in the pre-hospital emergency care field for many years, experiencing both the joy and happiness of success and the frustration and regret of failure, as well as the lessons and punishments after mistakes, and the confusion and helplessness when misunderstood or even insulted. I believe that to avoid many regrets, we need a book, and grassroots doctors need a book—a book that introduces basic emergency skills and theories, a book that ordinary, lower-educated responders can understand and read, a practical book with specific reference and guidance for clinical emergency care, and a book that integrates basic medical theory with practical operations.
Therefore, I have attempted to write this book, summarizing my years of research and insights, accumulated experience and lessons, and combining them with the latest theories in emergency medicine, to present them to readers in book form and hope to inspire them. Let us take fewer detours and save more patients, living up to the sacred title of medical staff.
