Features: "New Horizon English Course: Listening and Speaking" is one of the core textbooks of the "New Horizon English Course," divided into levels 1-4, with 10 units per level, suitable for one semester of use. "New Horizon English Course: Listening and Speaking" Level 4 is divided into five parts:
Part 1: Poetry Appreciation. This section aims to further consolidate the pronunciation training conducted in Levels 1 and 2, while allowing students to appreciate richly meaningful poems.
Part 2: Listening Practice. The content is related to the themes of the corresponding units in the Reading and Writing Course. Considering the current differences in students' English proficiency upon enrollment, teaching and testing are divided into levels A and B. "Listening and Speaking" gradually progresses from simple to advanced content. Listening exercises for Levels 3 and 4 primarily follow the format of the Higher Vocational and Specialized College Level A Examination, with additional forms not present in the Level B Examination, such as listening to short passages and answering questions. Building on the short dialogue and short passage fill-in exercises from Levels 1 and 2, Levels 3 and 4 introduce listening to short passages and selecting answers.
Part 3: Speaking Practice. This section focuses on communicative function training as specified in the "Basic Requirements for English Curriculum in Higher Vocational and Specialized College Education" (Trial Implementation). Levels 3 and 4 emphasize foreign-related business activities. First, they provide basic communicative expressions and two sample dialogues for students to imitate and learn. Then, they offer a variety of dialogue exercises with increasing difficulty, transitioning from simple dialogue practice to independent speaking. This section is grounded in listening and gradually moves into speaking, aiming to improve oral expression skills.
Part 4: Integrated Listening and Speaking Practice. This section combines listening and speaking, emphasizing training through group or class activities to develop students' comprehensive abilities.
Part 5: Short passages related to Western culture, accompanied by discussion questions, are designed to cultivate students' cultural awareness.
