Is bilateral epididymal head cysts serious?

Patient's question:

I had the high ligation surgery for varicocele six months ago. Now during the follow-up examination, bilateral seminal vesicle cysts have appeared, which was not the case before. Is this serious? Will it interfere with normal sperm fertilization? Do I need to have surgery?

Doctor's answer:

In most cases, epididymal head cysts are asymptomatic. Patients often discover them during routine health check-ups or while experiencing epididymitis during follow-up visits to the hospital. In most cases, epididymal head cysts are asymptomatic. Regular, intermittent monitoring is usually sufficient. Generally, a follow-up MRI is recommended every 3-6 months. If inflammation is present, anti-inflammatory medication can be used. If the epididymal head cysts grow rapidly and increase in number over a short period, there is a possibility of malignancy. In such cases, surgical treatment is the best option, as medication is ineffective.
