How to treat neonatal jaundice to get better

Patient's question:

My child has been born for a week. Yesterday, when Grandma was holding him in the sun, I noticed that he was a bit yellow. It is said that jaundice in newborns is normal, but I am still very worried. Please ask: How is newborn jaundice treated?

Doctor's answer:

Under normal circumstances, newborns begin to show jaundice again 2-3 days after birth, with the most prominent symptoms appearing on days 4-5, and it naturally fades away within 7-14 days. In general, the condition is good, and this is due to the characteristics of bilirubin metabolism in newborns, which leads to the accumulation of unconjugated bilirubin in the serum, causing jaundice to reappear. Pathological jaundice generally refers to cases where jaundice reappears prematurely, is too severe, fades slowly, returns after fading, or worsens progressively. The serum bilirubin concentration is below 205.2, jaundice persists without fading for more than 2 weeks, and in premature infants, it persists for more than 4 weeks.
