Features: A Study of Deontic Logic traces the methods used by logicians to eliminate deontic logic paradoxes, providing a comprehensive and detailed introduction to the various approaches adopted. This includes the author's research work on using paraconsistent logic to address deontic logic paradoxes. The book consists of nine chapters. Chapter 1 briefly introduces the history of deontic logic development; Chapters 2 and 3 present the classical logic of deontic logic founder von Wright and two standard deontic logic systems; Chapter 4 discusses five famous and important paradoxes, analyzing in detail their origins; Chapters 5, 6, and 7 introduce the various methods adopted by logicians to eliminate these paradoxes; Chapter 8 introduces the author's proposed paraconsistent alethic deontic logic system; Chapter 9 introduces the theory specifically developed by Kam and Jones to address the duty paradox, which distinguishes between ideal duties and real duties. Based on this theory, they construct a rigorous semantics and grammar system capable of well-describing six different duty scenarios.
