What causes a baby to cry before having a bowel movement?

Patient's question:

My son has been out for 20 days, and every time before he has a bowel movement, he has to dance around his hands, as if he's in great pain. He strains really hard, like he's trying to push with all his might. Why is this happening?

Doctor's answer:

Micronutrient deficiency, low blood calcium leads to increased excitability of the brain and vegetative nervous system, causing restlessness at night. Calcium and vitamin D need to be supplemented. If calcium is deficient, the baby's fontanelles may not close properly. If zinc is deficient, mouth ulcers are common.
Before bed, avoid excessive excitement and go to sleep on time: 30 to 60 minutes before bed, let the baby calm down. Avoid playing too excitedly or engaging in excessive play with the baby to prevent them from becoming overly stimulated or anxious, making it difficult to fall asleep. They should not watch stimulating TV programs, listen to scary stories, or play with new toys.
Create a good sleep environment for the baby. The room should be at a comfortable temperature, quiet, and dimly lit. The blanket should be lightweight, soft, and dry. The baby should be urinated before bed.
