Does prostatic fluid come out with urine?

Patient's question:

I have had prostatitis for a long time, and I usually treat it with medication. When it gets severe, I go to the hospital. After hearing others say that prostatic fluid is excreted with urine, I wanted to ask if prostatic fluid really comes out with urine?

Doctor's answer:

Prostatic fluid is the secretion of the prostate gland. The excretion of prostatic fluid is influenced by male hormones, with a daily secretion volume of approximately 0.5 to 2 milliliters. It is an important component of semen, constituting about 1/10 to 1/3 of the volume of emitted semen. Approximately 1/6 of the emitted semen, about 0.5 milliliters, is prostatic fluid. In the order of ejaculation, prostatic fluid is one of the leading components of semen. The protein content in prostatic fluid is very low.
