Features: Among the five fundamental skills in English—listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation—listening holds the highest priority. Since the implementation of the College English Test Band 4 and 6 (CET-4 and CET-6) in 1989, listening comprehension has always been a key component, as evidenced by its weight in the exam—20%, second only to reading comprehension and far exceeding other question types. However, due to issues in the English teaching system and the language environment, most Chinese students do not pay sufficient attention to listening, practice enough, or employ effective methods, resulting in generally low listening skills. For many students, poor performance in the listening section has become a major obstacle to passing the CET-4 and CET-6 exams and achieving high scores. In reality, listening comprehension is one of the easier sections in the CET-4 and CET-6 exams to score highly in: first, unlike vocabulary, which requires long-term accumulation, listening comprehension relies more on a sense of the language and familiarity with pronunciation, intonation, and flow; second, the questions in the CET-4 and CET-6 exams follow clear patterns, with little change in question types or design over the past decade; and finally, with the right methods, a scientific understanding of the question patterns, and targeted practice, breaking through the CET-4 and CET-6 listening section is entirely feasible in a short period! Previous listening tests required candidates to judge and choose based on the information they heard. The approach of this book, however, guides students to first predict and analyze, then compare and analyze, and finally make comprehensive selections, implementing an "inverse thinking process" training. Such training greatly benefits candidates in improving their listening comprehension skills and performing well under exam conditions. To help candidates fully utilize and digest the listening materials in this book, the authors have also included a number of dictation exercises. During practice, candidates can listen to the audio recordings again while performing dictation exercises. The dictation questions in this book cover both word dictation and compound dictation. This combination further enhances candidates' ability to adapt to and master new question types in the listening exam. Of course, improving listening skills is not an overnight process. During their preparation, candidates should focus on intensive and strategic listening while also increasing their reading volume and breadth. Readers might consider summarizing key words and phrases in this book, which is also an excellent way to familiarize themselves with listening exam formats, expand their listening vocabulary, and improve their listening skills for the exam. As this is a new attempt, there may be some imperfections in the book. We warmly welcome criticism and corrections from and fellow educators.
