Patient's question:
I went to the hospital for a thorough examination and was told it was varicocele. However, the doctor said only one was enlarged to 3.2 mm, which is fine, but I still feel uncomfortable. It hurts a bit when I touch it, and there's also some pain in the wound. Is this normal? Besides the swelling on the left side, it's still visible below. Will it gradually subside?Doctor's answer:
The treatment of varicocele should be differentiated based on the cause of the varicocele in the patient. Secondary varicocele only addresses the primary disease, such as retroperitoneal tumors, hydronephrosis, or ectopic blood vessels, which can resolve on its own. Primary varicocele is treated differently depending on whether the patient has symptoms or complications. If there are no symptoms, no treatment may be necessary. For mild symptoms, conservative treatment can be administered. Therefore, left varicocele does not necessarily cause pain. The cause of right-sided pain may not be varicocele, and further health checks should be conducted to determine if there is varicocele on the right side.
