The official name of the society was the All-Russian Society for the Itinerant Art Exhibitions, and the term "itinerant" indicated that its exhibitions were not limited to the two major cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg but were also held in various cities across Russia. The artists' desire to publicly display their works reflected the democratic ideals of the time. Like other intellectuals, the Itinerant Art Exhibition Society aimed to spread culture to the general public and contribute to their education and inspiration.
