Features: The 20th century was the century when the Chinese nation moved from suffering to a new birth. In this century, Chinese society underwent violent, extensive, rapid, and long-lasting social upheavals, with modernization being the prominent main thread of this transformation. Over the past hundred years, China has experienced three historic turning points on its path forward, producing three great figures at the forefront of their time, each elevating the level of China's modernization. This book employs the comparative analysis method in historical research to discuss, analyze, and compare the five aspects of modernization—its connotation, model, development strategy, implementation approach, and the forces relied upon—among the three generations of leaders of the Communist Party of China under different historical conditions. It highlights the historical inheritance relationship of exploration, transcendence, and innovation in China's modernization efforts, which began with Mao Zedong, succeeded by Deng Xiaoping, and developed under Jiang Zemin. The book argues that the three generations of leaders led the Chinese people in a grand "pulling race" of modernization. It clearly portrays the historical context of the Chinese people's exploration and pursuit of modernization, interpreting the significance and value of this century's theme for China's past, present, and future.
