Features: This set of Chinese Stories is a newly revised and published version based on the original Chinese Stories published by Zhonghua Book Company in 1941. The original Chinese Stories consisted of twelve volumes, with stories selected from ancient Chinese classics, including the Five Classics, historical records, philosophical works, and literary collections. The content includes mythical legends, historical tales, and anecdotes of famous figures. During the selection process, to lower the reading difficulty, the compilers made appropriate modifications to the text of some stories. The newly published Chinese Stories remains in twelve volumes. Each story is divided into four parts: original text, annotations, translation, and commentary, all presented in simplified horizontal print. Additionally, to accommodate the needs of some readers, the original illustrations and traditional vertical print text are retained. In the revised version, some changes were made to the text and sources of the original stories:
1. Corrections for obvious errors. For example, in the story "Drawing a Sword to Block the Door" in Volume 11, "Zhang Yun" was corrected to "Zhang Yun" after verification; in "The Gale Raises the Bed" in Volume 3, "Huang Ding" was corrected to "Wang Ding"; and the source of "Qin Hui's Treachery" in Volume 2 was corrected from The History of Song to The Song History.
2. For stories selected from the Twenty-Four Histories, the sources were standardized to Zhonghua Book Company's new editions. For instance, stories from the Records of the Three Kingdoms were uniformly revised to Records of the Three Kingdoms: Wei Volume, Records of the Three Kingdoms: Shu Volume, and Records of the Three Kingdoms: Wu Volume; The Former Han History, The Tang History, and The Jin History were uniformly changed to The Han History, The Tang History, and The Jin History, respectively.
3. Some unsuitable and repetitive stories from the original Chinese Stories were removed. "Zhu Hai's Anger at a Tiger" in Volume 2 was repeated with "Anger at a Tiger" in Volume 11, and the former was deleted in this publication; "Picking Scabs" in Volume 3 and "Fishing to Aid Food" in Volume 7 were also removed as they offered little educational value for young readers.
