Features: This set of "Chinese Stories" is a re-edited and re-published version based on the original "Chinese Stories" published by Zhonghua Book Company in 1941. The original "Chinese Stories" consisted of twelve volumes, with stories selected from ancient Chinese classics, including the Five Classics, historical records, philosophical works, and literary collections. The content includes mythical legends, historical tales, and anecdotes of famous figures. During the selection process, to lower the reading difficulty, the editors made appropriate modifications to the text of some stories. The newly published "Chinese Stories" remains in twelve volumes. Each story is divided into four parts: original text, annotations, translation, and comments, all presented in simplified horizontal print. Additionally, to accommodate the needs of some readers, all original illustrations and traditional vertical print text are retained. In the revised version, some changes were made to the text and sources of the original stories:
1. Corrections of obvious errors. For example, in the story "Blocking the Door with a Sword" in Volume 11, "Zhang Yun" was corrected to "Zhang Yun" after verification; in "The Storm Carried the Bed" in Volume 3, "Huang Ding" was corrected to "Wang Ding." The source of "The Treachery of Qin Hui" in Volume 2 should be the New Edition of the History of Song Dynasty, but the original book mistakenly listed it as The Book of Song Dynasty, which has been corrected.
2. Stories selected from the Twenty-Four Histories are uniformly cited using Zhonghua Book Company's new editions. For example, stories from the Records of the Three Kingdoms have been uniformly revised to Records of the Three Kingdoms·Biographies of Wei, Records of the Three Kingdoms·Biographies of Shu, and Records of the Three Kingdoms·Biographies of Wu; The Former Han Dynasty, The History of Tang, and The History of Jin have been uniformly changed to The Book of Han, The Book of Tang, and The Book of Jin, respectively.
3. Some unsuitable and repetitive stories from the original "Chinese Stories" have been removed. In Volume 2, "Zhu Hai's Anger at the Tiger" was repeated with "Anger at the Tiger" in Volume 11, and the former was removed in this publication. In Volume 3, "Toothpick Addiction" and "Fishing to Help with Food" in Volume 7 were deemed of little educational value for young readers and were also removed.
