What is prostatitis?

Patient's question:

My brother is 29 years old. He got prostatitis due to excessive drinking two years ago. It has been more than two years now, and he still has frequent urination, a feeling of incomplete urination, and sometimes lower back pain. Now he takes medicine every day, but the effect is not very obvious.

Doctor's answer:

In about half of patients with chronic, non-healing prostatitis, there are significant changes in mental and psychological factors and personality traits. For example: anxiety, depression, hypochondriasis, hysteria, and even suicidal tendencies. These changes in mental and psychological factors can lead to autonomic nervous system dysfunction, triggering endocrine disorders in the posterior urethral neuromuscular function, resulting in pelvic pain and endocrine disorders in urinary function; complete elimination of mental tension can alleviate or fully heal the symptoms. However, it is currently unclear whether these changes in mental and psychological factors are the direct cause or a secondary manifestation. Therefore, patients should receive timely and targeted treatment, and maintain regular sexual activity in daily life to prevent prolonged sitting.
