What is a prostatic cyst?

Patient's question:

These days, I went to the hospital for a health check-up and the results revealed that I have a prostatic cyst. In fact, I didn't feel sick at all. Occasional frequent urination and urgency felt quite normal, but the result was that I was sick.

Doctor's answer:

Prostatic cysts can be divided into congenital cysts and acquired cysts. Congenital cysts can be further categorized into two types: one is cysts that recur on the capsule of the prostate, referred to as prostatic capsule cysts, and the other is congenital cysts that are inherent to the prostate itself. The former is more common than the latter. The symptoms of the patients vary depending on the size of the cysts. Mild cases may be completely asymptomatic, while severe cases may exhibit symptoms such as urinary urgency, frequent urination, difficulty urinating, thin urine stream, excessive residual urine, and urinary retention. Hematuria is rarely seen. When secondary nerve infection occurs within the cyst, purulent urine may reappear.
