Since Mary Shelley published Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus (also translated as The Creature from a Science Laboratory) in 1818, science fiction has nearly 180 years of history. Over the generations, through the efforts of writers like Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, Hugo Gernsback, John Campbell, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke, it has become one of the most popular literary genres in the world. Some argue that science fiction belongs to popular literature and lacks true literary value. This is not without merit, as when people think of Western science fiction, they often recall the stories from low-quality pulp magazines in the 1920s and 1930s or the works intended for long-distance travelers. However, things are constantly evolving. Now, some propose the opposite view: that the future of high-level works will be found in science fiction. This perspective also has its merits. Because science fiction deals with a wide range of ideas in the broad and important field of human-environment interactions, it proposes new thoughts and aspirations, significantly influencing humanity's vision of the future.
