Patient's question:
I am 39 years old. I recently noticed that my glans head also has some other issues. I would like to ask what kind of medication is good for treating balanitis?Doctor's answer:
Common causes of balanoposthitis include infectious and non-infectious factors. Infectious causes include sexually transmitted infections such as Candida, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Chlamydia trachomatis, as well as Neisseria gonorrhoeae, which can all lead to balanoposthitis. Balanoposthitis manifests as redness and burning of the glans, with relief during urination. Non-infectious factors are often due to excessive cleaning or insufficient hygiene. If the prepuce is (overlong) or phimotic, circumcision is recommended. For overlong prepuce, it is advisable to seek treatment at a formal urological hospital for removal. The treatment for trichomoniasis balanoposthitis involves taking Metronidazole once daily for 3 days, alternating with 10 days of treatment. For Candida-induced balanoposthitis, treatments commonly used include Griseofulvin or Itraconazole.
