What are the consequences of elevated CA125?

Patient's question:

I was talking with a doctor friend of mine today about CA125, and he mentioned that an elevated CA125 level can have a significant impact on the uterus. So, what are the consequences of an elevated CA125 level?

Doctor's answer:

The increase in CA125 will have different effects on all aspects. The ratio of CA125 during menstruation to that in the follicular phase helps improve the diagnostic rate of early endometriosis. Elevated CA125 is also related to the degree of pelvic adhesion. Higher values indicate severe adhesion, which may make surgery difficult. Additionally, a significant decrease in preoperative CA125 levels after surgery or medication treatment, followed by a long-term recurrence, suggests that the disease may have relapsed. Abnormally elevated blood CA125 also warrants vigilance for the possibility of malignant transformation.
