Can you have children with balanitis?

Patient's question:

I am 28 and recently got married. I have been feeling discomfort in my urethra and noticed many small red spots on my genital area. Sometimes, I go to the hospital for a thorough examination, and they say it's due to phimosis. I would like to ask if phimosis can affect fertility?

Doctor's answer:

General inflammation of the glans can lead to retrograde transmission in the urinary and reproductive systems, recurring conditions such as prostatitis and seminal vesiculitis, which interfere with semen quality. It can also cause inflammation in the female vagina and cervix, negatively affecting fertility. In the early stages, symptoms are mild, with only the glans and inner foreskin becoming red and itchy. Severe cases may involve pain and tenderness; in later stages, superficial ulcers can develop on the inner foreskin, accompanied by yellow or cheese-like discharge, often with a foul odor.
