Features: The primary readers of this book are patients and their families or friends and relatives. Laboratory tests are one of the common issues faced by many patients. Laboratory tests are essential tools for doctors to examine patients' conditions, make accurate diagnoses, and observe treatment effectiveness. However, the inability to understand various medical terms, foreign symbols, units, and reference values is a major concern for many readers. To obtain knowledge in this area, you can refer to the information provided in this book. The content of this book is presented in a question-and-answer format, using language as simple and easy to understand as possible. The book selects some commonly used and widely applicable test items for writing, aiming for accessibility rather than comprehensiveness. It strives to make the content understandable and clear, especially for readers with limited medical knowledge. It is important to note that while laboratory tests are an indispensable part of disease diagnosis, they are neither universal nor the only method. Many test results are not specific; some are influenced by laboratory methods, disease progression, individual differences, and external factors. Test results are merely one of the reference indicators for disease diagnosis. Doctors diagnose diseases by analyzing medical history, clinical manifestations, test results, and epidemiological data, and then making a conclusion. Therefore, we remind readers never to jump to conclusions based on a single test result, especially not to use it for self-diagnosing or diagnosing others. We say this not to diminish the importance of laboratory tests. On the contrary, abnormal test results are highly valuable for disease diagnosis. When patients have questions about laboratory tests, they should consult doctors or other professionals with medical knowledge in a timely manner, so that certain diseases can be diagnosed and treated early. This is the original intention behind writing this book. The main content of the book and the appendix are presented in table format, listing the Chinese and English names, reference values, and units of many commonly used test items. This information is primarily based on the standards used by the Peking Union Medical College Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and has been compiled in reference to the National Clinical Laboratory Testing Procedures. Additionally, the book includes two types of indexes for laboratory test items: Chinese names (in pinyin alphabetical order) and English abbreviations, for easy reference. This book can also be used as a reference for grassroots clinical doctors and residents during clinical practice.
