Modern Literature Research Review

Author: Xie Zhixi
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-01-01
Features: The 20 articles collected in this volume include the first 10 written during the author's time studying in Beijing and working at Henan University, and the last 10 written during their tenure at Tsinghua University. The author initially wrote academic reviews with the purpose of honing their personal academic sensibility and judgment. As a result, the early writings appear somewhat cautious and restrained. By 1996, when writing works such as "From Ontology to Method—Cultural Criticism and the Study of Modern Chinese Literature," the author gradually revealed a sharper and even more critical tone. In this book, what I appreciate is the author's sincerity and seriousness in discussing academic matters, which is first evident in the pervasive tension of academic critique. The author's reviews primarily target influential scholars with significant academic impact, many of whom are closely connected to the author as mentors and friends.
