Features: Evaluating development levels is both a summary of past development achievements and a judgment of the current development starting point, which has always been a focus of scholars, governments, and international organizations. With the deepening of social and economic development, people's understanding of development has also been continuously improving. Especially the excessive pursuit of economic growth has not only failed to fundamentally solve the problems of national development but has also exposed more social and environmental issues, leading to a fundamental transformation in people's development concepts. Development level evaluation is a standard for judging the status of economic and social development and the basis and starting point for formulating macroeconomic policies, holding significant theoretical and practical significance. Based on a review of development theory and practice, this book proposes a framework for evaluating development from five levels—economy, society, people's living standards, technological development level, and the coordination level of population, resources, and environment—specifically tailored to China's particular stage of development and specific issues. The book also offers some suggestions on how to correct some of the inconsistencies that emerged during the reform and opening-up, such as widening regional and income gaps, the lack of coordination between economic and social development, and the misalignment between socio-economic development and resource and environmental sustainability. This book is suitable for government officials, managers, and those concerned with the development of Chinese society and economy. It can also serve as a reference for students and scholars in economics-related fields.
