Features: The main research task of the China (Hong Kong) Economic Academic Fund's 2002 research project, "Employment Issues After China's Accession to the WTO," was to study the impact of joining the WTO on China's employment. On one hand, it examined certain changes in China's employment and labor market within one year of joining the WTO and provided reasonable explanations for these changes. On the other hand, it explored the long-term effects of joining the WTO on China's employment issues, as well as how the Chinese government could mitigate the negative impacts on the employment environment and structure through institutional development, and how it could expand the positive effects on employment opportunities through policy improvement. Since joining the World Trade Organization represented the second major opening-up for China since 1978, when publishing this book, we decided to title it "Employment in a Major Opening-Up" and included some new research findings. Among them:
Chapter 1, "Employment Issues After China's Accession to the WTO," was written by Yang Yiyong;
Chapter 2, "Analysis of China's Labor Market Situation Since Joining the WTO," was written by Li Shuang;
