Is surgical treatment necessary for left moderate varicocele?

Patient's question:

1. Always felt healthy, but had irregular sleep schedules.
2. In the past two or three years, I often slept until 1 or 2 a.m. and was always engrossed in playing games. Since May of this year, after a thorough examination, I have been trying to maintain a stable sleep schedule.
3. However, after taking medication for three months, there was no significant improvement. Now, it has been diagnosed as moderate varicocele, and the doctor recommends surgery.

Doctor's answer:

Treatment of varicocele, mild cases can be treated conservatively, which involves rest, wearing tight underwear, increasing intense exercise, and appropriately using blood-activating medications. Moderate to severe cases, or those accompanied by infertility or abnormal semen, must undergo surgery. This is because varicocele obstructs blood, leading to circulatory disorders in the testes, impairing their normal sperm production and excretion functions. Over time, it can cause testicular swelling and loss of all functions. Varicocele is prone to recurrence, requiring long-term medication maintenance.
