Patient's question:
I used to have prostatitis, which has been cured. My recent prostate fluid tests were all normal. Lately, I've been feeling a bloated sensation in my rectum. I had an ultrasound, and the doctor said there was a problem—it's a prostatic cyst.Doctor's answer:
Prostatic cysts are cystic changes that occur again due to congenital or acquired reasons in the prostate gland. Congenital cysts result from incomplete atrophy of the (Wolffian ducts), which fuse at the midline and form a deep diverticulum or cyst at the bladder base, opening posteriorly into the prostatic urethra. Acquired cysts are caused by fibrous prostatic stroma leading to incomplete or intermittent obstruction of the acini, gradually thickening the acinar epithelium, ultimately resulting in retention cysts. These cysts can be located anywhere within the prostate or extend to the weak area at the bladder neck, with a diameter of 1 to 2 centimeters.
