Features: With the continuous deepening of China's reform and opening-up and the significant improvement of its international status, the importance of Chinese has become increasingly prominent globally, bringing rare development opportunities to China's field of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages (TCSOL). As an independent discipline, TCSOL has seen its research directions and content becoming increasingly clear, its academic connotation continuously enriched, its teaching and research teams growing stronger, and its research outcomes becoming more abundant, achieving substantial progress. As a burgeoning emerging discipline, TCSOL urgently needs a platform to showcase its achievements. However, there are very few specialized academic journals dedicated to TCSOL research, which cannot meet the demands of the discipline's development and the need for researchers and educators to publish their findings and engage in academic exchanges.
Shanghai Normal University has long been engaged in TCSOL research and teaching, possessing strong academic capabilities and a broad academic influence. At the dawn of the 21st century, establishing such a journal would not only further enhance the global influence of Chinese and promote the development of TCSOL but also elevate the discipline's status and refine its theoretical foundations.
"Journal of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages" is founded with the mission of "promoting TCSOL teaching and research both domestically and internationally, promptly reflecting the latest achievements and academic trends in the field of Chinese teaching and research, comprehensively improving the academic standards of teaching and research teams in TCSOL, and providing a platform for academic discussions, research, and theoretical innovation." It aims to make positive and greater contributions to the development of TCSOL in China in the aspects of discipline construction, academic research, Chinese teaching, and cultural teaching.
