Features: Ci Yuan (A Dictionary of Chinese Characters), guided by the principles, viewpoints, and methods of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought; modern natural sciences, social sciences, and applied technologies were removed from the original Ci Yuan based on the nature and purpose of this book; word selection generally ends with the Opium War (1840 AD); some common entries were added, and entries that are not words or too obscure were deleted. Single characters are annotated with Pinyin and Tonal Marks, with the addition of Guangyun (a historical pronunciation dictionary) initials, and initials are marked. Characters not included in Guangyun are annotated with initials from Jiyun (another historical pronunciation dictionary) or other rhyming dictionaries and character books. Definitions are concise and precise, paying attention to the origin of words and their evolution in usage. All textual evidence has been verified, and the author, title, and volume are indicated.
