How is varicocele treated?

Patient's question:

Follow-up ultrasound 2 weeks after varicocele surgery. The first image was taken before the surgery, and the second image was taken after the surgery. The doctor said everything is fine, but now I feel discomfort in the scrotum after standing or sitting for a long time. Is it not fully recovered yet?

Doctor's answer:

You have undergone varicocele surgery. A follow-up check-up after 2 weeks is not very meaningful. After surgery, pay attention to rest, avoid sexual activity, and temporarily prevent erections. It is recommended to rest as the foundation to prevent the penis from being erect for a long time, causing blood to rush. Avoid strenuous exercise, heavy labor, etc. Around 3 months later, you can have a scrotal ultrasound check-up. Varicocele can be stabilized, but the treatment process is generally slow, and it is prone to recurrence after treatment. Therefore, during treatment, medication should be used according to symptoms. Additionally, patients need to have a light diet, avoid stimulating foods, and not smoke or drink beer.
