Features: Since the dawn of history, humans have continuously suffered from natural disasters. How to defend against and rescue from natural disasters has always been a matter of universal concern. China is an ancient civilization, and the Chinese nation is one of the oldest great peoples in the world. As early as 2.5 million years ago, our ancestors began to labor, live, and multiply on the land of China, with a documented history spanning over 5,000 years. Throughout history, the Chinese people have developed by resisting and overcoming natural disasters. In a certain sense, the entire history of Chinese civilization is a history of the Chinese people's struggle against natural disasters. This book is a revised version of A History of China's Disaster Relief and A History of China's Disasters, becoming a systematic chronicle of disaster prevention and relief. It represents an important achievement in the academic study of Chinese disasters. It should be noted that compiling a history of Chinese disasters is, after all, an attempt. Not only is it challenging, but shortcomings and imperfections are also inevitable. To strengthen disaster science research, summarize historical experiences, and improve disaster prevention, resistance, relief, and mitigation efforts, we hope that more scholars, experts, and those concerned with or engaged in disaster relief work will actively engage in disaster research, create higher-level works on disaster history, and advance disaster science research to a new stage.
