Features: Reading an outstanding biography can have a lifelong impact on you. Michelangelo (1475-1564), his long life was a mystery, it was hard to say how much pain was hidden within. His genius was always constrained by trivial matters, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t save the declining fate of his family. No matter how much light he shone, it couldn’t illuminate the dim ending of the Renaissance. His pain and passion were condensed into the vitality of "David," the brilliance of "The Creation," and the extraordinary tranquility of "Moses."
Reading a good biography can influence a person’s entire life. The "Major Figures in the World Series" edited and published by China Youth and Children’s Publishing House is a large-scale biography series specially prepared for young readers. The "major figures" introduced in this series are all individuals in world history who have had significant influence and contributions in politics, military, economy, science, thought, literature, and art. They have played a tremendous role in the course of world history. It can be said that the life of a "major figure" is history, it is knowledge. The "Major Figures in the World Series" has already published over 50 volumes, and more are scheduled to be released in the future. Compared to other biographical reading materials, it has the following unique features. In the selection of subjects, this series differs from general celebrity biographies. All the selected figures have had a significant impact on the course of world history. Among them, there are not only well-known celebrities from developed countries but also figures from developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. There are also important figures from Chinese history who have had a significant impact on the world. The subjects are primarily positive, with a few exceptions of highly influential negative figures.
In terms of content, this series provides a relatively complete account of the subject’s life, starting from their birth and ending with their death. Unlike some biographies that only record a few small anecdotes of celebrities, the "Major Figures in the World Series" presents the extraordinary life experiences of the subjects in a comprehensive, three-dimensional, and colorful manner. Compared to those massive biographies that can be dozens of thousands of words long, each volume of this series only contains about 12 to 13 thousand words, with a low price, and the text is easy to read and engaging. The plots are vivid, making it more suitable for young readers and those with general cultural levels. Readers can quickly gain an understanding of the main life events and contributions of the subjects, drawing rich nourishment from them. It can be said that among the many biographical reading materials, the "Major Figures in the World Series" is a well-organized, appropriately sized, and engaging biography series. Therefore, it has always been popular with readers.
In the evaluation of the subjects, the "Major Figures in the World Series" remains faithful to the true nature of history. It introduces the achievements and contributions of the subjects objectively and honestly, without concealing their flaws. This allows readers not only to learn about the life stories of the subjects but also to learn to observe them through the lens of historical materialism.
In today’s increasingly competitive book market, the editors of the "Major Figures in the World Series" have not compromised on quality for economic benefits. Many manuscripts have been revised multiple times before being presented to readers.
