Features: Based on the spirit of the "Basic Requirements for the Basic Courses Teaching in Higher Vocational and Technical Education" (hereinafter referred to as "Basic Requirements") and the "Personnel Training Objectives and Specifications for Higher Vocational and Technical Education" (hereinafter referred to as "Training Specifications") formulated by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education in August 1999, this set of "New Concept Textbooks for Higher Vocational and Technical Education in the 21st Century" was meticulously planned by Beijing Wan Shui Electronics Information Co., Ltd. of China Water Conservancy and Hydropower Press, and written by teachers who have long been engaged in higher vocational and technical education with rich teaching experience. Building on the successful experiences and teaching achievements of higher vocational and technical colleges and adult education institutions in exploring the cultivation of applied talents, this set of textbooks was compiled. To compile these textbooks, the publisher conducted extensive research, visited over 100 representative higher vocational colleges, higher vocational and technical colleges, adult education institutions, and secondary vocational and technical colleges affiliated to undergraduate universities. After gaining a thorough understanding of the situation, discussing course settings, and researching course systems, the main editors of the books were determined through methods such as school applications, soliciting opinions, and expert evaluations, and an editorial board was established. Each book's editorial board invited key academic leaders or core teaching personnel from multiple schools, and the determination of teaching outlines and the positioning of textbook styles were carefully discussed by the editorial board multiple times. The "New Concept Textbooks for Higher Vocational and Technical Education in the 21st Century" have the following features:
(1) Oriented toward the needs of personnel training in the 21st century and combined with the characteristics of higher vocational and technical education students, these textbooks have distinctive features of higher vocational and technical education. The authors of this set of textbooks are all core teaching personnel who have long been engaged in higher vocational and technical education, deeply understanding the basic conditions, characteristics, and learning patterns of students, and have accumulated rich experience in teaching practice. Therefore, it can be said that each book is a summary of the long-term teaching experience of the teachers.
(2) Based on the "Basic Requirements" and "Training Specifications," the content is comprehensive, the structure is rational, the language is concise, and the practicality is strong. During the compilation process, the authors strictly adhered to the principle of "applying what is necessary and sufficient" proposed by the Ministry of Education for higher vocational and technical education, striving to start from the needs of practical applications (examples) and minimize dry, theory-based concepts with weak practicality, while strengthening applied and highly practical content.
(3) The "problem (task) driven" writing approach is adopted, introducing case-based teaching and heuristic teaching methods to facilitate stimulating learning interest. The writing approach of this set of books differs from the traditional textbook writing approach: first, problems are proposed, then methods to solve them are introduced, and finally, general principles or concepts are summarized. We liken this new writing principle to the "、" (great tree, problem-driven) principle. On one hand, it follows the principle of "constructing the tree" (each book is a great tree), "constructing the branches" (each chapter is a branch of the tree), and "constructing the leaves" (several sections and knowledge points in each chapter) in writing; on the other hand, it adopts a problem-driven approach, with each chapter ideally starting with a typical real-world example (posing a problem and clarifying objectives), then gradually expanding (analyzing the problem-solving process), and integrating the chapter's key knowledge points during the example discussion. This selective example-based writing approach, which integrates key knowledge points into the examples, is highly readable and operational, making it very suitable for students in higher vocational and technical education to read and use. Through learning to construct the "tree" in this book, students can find the "branches" and trace the "leaves," ultimately achieving the goal of constructing the "tree" they need.
(4) Accompanied by experimental guides and training manuals to facilitate student practice and improvement.
(5) Equipped with dynamic electronic teaching plans. In line with the Ministry of Education's call for diversified and multimedia textbook development, each textbook is accompanied by an electronic teaching plan to meet the needs of teachers for multimedia instruction. The electronic teaching plans are created using PowerPoint, and teachers can modify them freely according to their teaching needs.
(6) Provides the source code for all programs in the related textbooks, making it convenient for teachers to switch directly to the system environment for teaching and improving teaching effectiveness.
In summary, this set of textbooks has condensed the teaching experience and wisdom of hundreds of frontline higher vocational and technical education teachers over the years. The content is novel, the structure is complete, the concepts are clear, the explanations are easy to understand, and the textbooks are highly readable, operational, and practical. These textbooks are suitable for higher vocational colleges, higher vocational colleges, secondary vocational and technical colleges affiliated to adult education institutions and undergraduate universities, as well as private colleges. The new century has sounded the clarion call for the vigorous development of higher vocational and technical education in China, and the new century has placed new demands on higher vocational education. Higher vocational education occupies an indispensable position in comprehensive quality education and plays an increasingly significant role in China's socialist modernization construction.
