At midnight, when the world is silent and empty, if you pick up this book, perhaps you will see a blurred face outside the window. In the last summer of the 20th century, in Heigu City, H Province, a series of strange and horrifying incidents occurred: several beautiful women were inexplicably harassed and followed by a man wearing a broken hat, hiding his face, who appeared and disappeared unpredictably, leading to their relatives nearly falling into disaster. Later, Yan Ping, the deputy director of the Culture Bureau, encountered a "ghost" in her courtyard late at night and witnessed the sight of a group of Nationalist soldiers who had been buried underground for decades conducting drills. On her wedding day, the female host of the TV station, Yan Hong, received a mysterious "gift" that left her and her husband utterly frightened. The red auspicious character hanging in the wedding banquet hall instantly turned into pitch black: "Sailor" Company General Manager Yan Fan met a "three-service woman" in the wilderness after the encounter, only to discover that the charming lady was actually a "corpse" who had been sent to the crematorium before. An elderly black-clad man with an air of sageship appeared on the street, revealing the unspoken "secrets" behind several "heinous incidents" through his self-composed songs. When the truth came to light, the kind residents finally saw the "vermin" who had accumulated evil and misfortune in the world one by one surfacing, receiving merciless and severe punishment from both morality and the law.
