Features: Joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) is a historically significant event in China's reform and opening-up process, as well as an important opportunity to further advance comprehensive, multi-level, and wide-ranging opening-up. It has a profound impact on economic development. There is a wealth of introductions to WTO rules, which people are familiar with, and China's commitments upon joining the WTO are readily available. However, combining these two aspects organically to make the rules less abstract and the commitments more vivid is rare. This is precisely what this book aims to achieve. In its twelve chapters, we not only provide a comprehensive introduction to the history and future of the WTO, as well as industry agreements and sectoral regulations, but also analyze China's commitments under each agreement. We strive to analyze WTO rules and China's entry into the WTO from a new, more pragmatic perspective. This book serves as an authoritative reference for government and party leaders at all levels, helping them accurately grasp and apply the new WTO rules to make targeted decisions.
The WTO Research Center was established in 1986 on the basis of the "WTO Center Beijing Group" under the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC). It is sponsored by the Research Institute of International Trade and Economic Cooperation under MOFTEC and is dedicated to researching WTO and related issues. It conducts not only academic research but, more importantly, serves government and corporate decision-making. Especially after China became a formal member of the WTO, the center has continued to conduct in-depth research on the basic rules and agreements of the WTO while also studying the changing trends in China's economic development and related industries after joining the WTO. It examines the measures governments should take in response and the internationalization development strategies of enterprises. The goal is to provide forward-looking, reference-worthy advice for government decision-making and actionable recommendations for businesses.
The center has established a broad information exchange system and network with domestic and international experts, scholars, and officials who research WTO-related issues.
