Features: With the increasing popularity of studying in Germany, the German government introduced the German Language Test for Foreigners (TestDaF) in 2001. Its full name is Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache, and it was first administered simultaneously at examination centers worldwide, including within Germany, on April 6, 2001. Compared to the current "German University Admission Test" (DSH exam), the TestDaF has the following characteristics:
1. The TestDaF is developed by German language experts from the TestDaF Institute (Hagen) and graded jointly by German language teachers from various universities, maximizing the authority and fairness of the exam. In contrast, the DSH exam is prepared and graded by language instructors from each university's language courses.
2. The TestDaF has examination centers worldwide, allowing students who wish to study in Germany to obtain their language certificate in their home country. The DSH exam is conducted, in principle, only within Germany.
3. There is no limit to the number of times one can take the TestDaF, providing candidates with unlimited opportunities. The DSH exam, however, is limited to two attempts.
4. The TestDaF is a comprehensive assessment of German language proficiency, and its results can be used not only to apply for study programs but also to provide language certification to other departments and employers. The DSH exam, as its name implies, is solely for German university admission.
Currently, both the TestDaF and the DSH exam are in use and hold equal validity. However, due to the highly evident advantages of the former over the latter, we believe the TestDaF will gradually replace the DSH exam.
To meet the needs of current readers, we have compiled this book to help them understand the TestDaF question types, difficulty levels, and conduct self-tests. The book includes eight sets of practice tests, strictly following the structure provided by the TestDaF Institute (Hagen). Each test consists of four parts: Reading Comprehension, Listening Comprehension, Written Expression, and Oral Expression. Answers, model essays, and listening scripts are provided at the end.
In the appendix, the authors provide a detailed introduction to the purpose of the TestDaF, its four components, the performance levels of the TestDaF, the status of the exam in China, and information on exam dates and registration. All the tests in the book have been rigorously selected in terms of language proficiency and content. The articles used in the tests are sourced from recent German-language newspapers, magazines, professional books, and educational websites, ensuring high readability and professionalism. To guarantee the representativeness and accuracy of the tests, each item has been reviewed and graded by German linguistics doctors and DAAD experts.
