Features: How to Read Liver Function Test Results
1. Bilirubin Quantitative Test. This test is used to determine if a patient has jaundice and the severity of jaundice. The normal value for bilirubin is no more than 1 milligram per 100 milliliters of serum. A level exceeding 1 milligram indicates jaundice; the higher the bilirubin level, the deeper the jaundice. Another test method is the "Jaundice Index," with a normal value below 8 units. If the value exceeds the normal range, it also indicates jaundice.
2. Thymol Turbidity Test (also known as T·T·T). This test is used to assess the extent of liver cell damage. The normal value is 0–6 units. If the value exceeds 6 units, it is considered abnormal.
3. Alanine Aminotransferase Activity Test (also known as G·P·T). Liver cells contain a high amount of alanine aminotransferase. When liver cells are damaged, this enzyme is released from the cells into the bloodstream, increasing the concentration of G·P·T in the blood. Currently, since the methods of measurement vary across different regions and hospitals, the normal values for G·P·T set by each hospital may differ.
How to Read Stool Routine Test Results
Stool routine examination includes tests for stool color, consistency, cells (red blood cells, white blood cells, pus cells, phagocytes), occult blood test, and parasite eggs, among other items. In a normal person, the stool is usually yellow and formed, without blood or mucus, and without red blood cells, white blood cells, parasite eggs, or protozoa. If the stool color is clay-like or grayish-white, it may indicate biliary obstruction. If the stool is black like tar, it may suggest bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract or the use of medications such as activated charcoal or iron supplements. If the stool is red, it may indicate gastrointestinal bleeding, particularly for individuals with conditions affecting the colon, rectum, or anus. If red and white blood cells are detected at a level of "+-++" or higher in the stool, it can be considered bacterial dysentery. If only white blood cells are detected, it suggests intestinal inflammation. If only red blood cells are detected, it is likely that the individual has colitis, tumors, polyps, intestinal tuberculosis, or hemorrhoids. Parasite eggs can be detected in the stool, indicating the presence of roundworm eggs or tapeworm eggs.
Self-Massage to Prevent Hypertension
The self-care massage techniques described in the following sections aim to regulate the tension of the body and mind by pressing and stimulating specific acupoints or areas, thereby improving and enhancing blood circulation in the small arteries throughout the body to lower blood pressure. If you practice these techniques consistently, you will surely see results.
1. Relaxed Seated Position. Sit in a chair (the same posture applies to the following sections), placing your hands naturally on your knees. Close your eyes and focus on the soles of your feet, breathing evenly and slowly for 3–4 minutes. Then slowly open your eyes to relax your entire body.
2. Head and Neck Massage. First, gently rub the area around your temples with the heels of your hands three times. Then, using the inner side of your palms, gently push along your temples to the tips of your ears. Next, slide downward along the back of your ears to the Fengchi acupoint, where you should gently rub three times. Finally, use the inner side of your palms to slowly push along the side of your neck forward and downward to the collarbone in front of your neck. When performing these movements, apply light pressure and repeat the sequence five times.
3. Abdominal Massage. Place the palm of one hand on your navel and place the other hand on top of it, pressing down. First, gently massage your abdomen in a clockwise direction for 3 minutes, then switch to a counterclockwise direction
