Patient's question:
The baby still cannot walk now. He falls down after walking a few steps. His speech is slow and his pronunciation is unclear. His reaction is relatively slow, and he often drools. He always hangs his head low, looking less bright. After checking at the hospital, the doctor said it was infantile cerebral palsy and needed treatment. What are the causes that can lead to infantile cerebral palsy?Doctor's answer:
The causes of cerebral palsy in children are generally divided into three categories:1. Prenatal Factors
(1) Maternal Factors: According to an analysis by an American research group, maternal intellectual disability is the main risk factor for cerebral palsy, accounting for 2.7‰ of cases. The second risk factor is maternal complications during childbirth. While maternal smoking does not have a direct relationship with cerebral palsy in offspring, women who smoke are twice as likely to give birth to low-birth-weight babies compared to non-smokers. Maternal epilepsy, pre-pregnancy hypothyroidism, or having had two or more stillbirths are significantly associated with cerebral palsy. Interestingly, maternal diabetes is unrelated to cerebral palsy. Additionally, prenatal abdominal or pelvic X-ray exposure, coagulation disorders, nephritis, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, syphilis, smooth muscle disease, asthma, organic heart disease, and rheumatic fever are all unrelated to cerebral palsy.
