What tests are needed for children with cerebral palsy?

Patient's question:

My child was born without a sense of taste or hearing and has always been quiet and slow. I worry it will affect the child's future intelligence. The child never has much appetite when eating and is not in good health either. The child is not strong and often gets sick. The child's cerebral palsy also causes frequent coughing and colds.

Doctor's answer:

Analysis of Symptoms of Pediatric Cerebral Palsy: It is not an independent disease. Cerebral palsy is a syndrome characterized by posture and movement dysfunction caused by non-progressive brain damage that begins in the immature stage of brain development within one month after birth. It is a common central nervous system syndrome in children, and pediatric cerebral palsy is often associated with uterine hypoxia or delivery. In some cases, it is caused by conditions such as hemolytic jaundice. Generally, it involves motor disorders, difficulty with feeding, stiffness in the limbs, reduced motor activity, and the inability to sit after seven months. A minority of individuals may have some degree of intellectual disability and are easily startled. Only 20% of cerebral palsy patients can be detected early and seek medical attention. Most children are identified by parents as abnormal, often at the age of one or even three.
