How long can a newborn with cerebral palsy live?

Patient's question:

My child was born with cerebral palsy. Even now, he cannot lift his head or sit up. He also cries and makes a fuss at night! I want to find an institution to take him in so that I can work hard to support him. My husband and I, one of us takes care of him while the other works hard for money, but we are almost unable to make ends meet. How long can a newborn with cerebral palsy live?

Doctor's answer:

Cerebral palsy is a syndrome caused by non-progressive brain damage during the developmental process in the first month after birth, primarily characterized by central motor disorders and abnormal postures. It may be associated with intellectual disability, seizures, behavioral abnormalities, or sensory impairments, and it is necessary to rule out central nervous system diseases in normal children and transient developmental delays. There are four abnormalities in pediatric cerebral palsy: motor developmental delay; abnormal muscle tone and posture; reduced active movement and/or abnormal movement; abnormal reflexes. Cerebral palsy patients may affect intelligence and may experience language disorders, motor impairments, and other issues. Early treatment for cerebral palsy is the best approach. It is recommended to visit a neurology department in a regular hospital and then proceed to a rehabilitation department for rehabilitation treatment. Early intervention can better control the condition. Cerebral palsy patients should also choose some protein-rich foods, which are beneficial for their brains.
