Features: This book was revised and renamed based on the original title "Methods and Techniques of Improvising Accompaniment for Songs," as requested by a broad readership. The original book was first published in December 1989. At that time, Professor Zhang Xiaohu, a renowned senior music educator in China, former Vice Chairman of the National Arts Education Committee, former President of the China Music Education Society, and the late former President of the China Conservatory of Music, provided guidance on the compilation of this book and wrote a preface. Here, we express our deep remembrance and gratitude to Professor Zhang. Due to the original book being written specifically for music enthusiasts eager to learn and master the skills of song improvisation accompaniment, it was an easy-to-understand, highly practical, and widely used guide that sold out multiple times and was reprinted many times, totaling tens of thousands of copies. This book has been extensively supplemented and revised based on the original content, with the original six chapters expanded to fourteen chapters. This book has four main features: First, it adopts a multi-purpose score notation form, which is not only suitable for guitar, piano, organ, electronic keyboard, accordion, but also for small ensembles. Second, it elaborates and introduces the chord selection and rhythmic pattern matching and processing methods for songs of different genres and types. Third, it popularizes harmonic theory and accompaniment techniques through a large number of examples of popular song improvisation accompaniment. Fourth, all musical examples in the book use simple notation to suit readers at all levels. This book introduces basic music theory, chord configurations for major and minor modes, rhythmic pattern selection, accompaniment methods for marches, and accompaniment methods for lyrical songs.
