Patient's question:
When the baby is just born, it rarely cries, has little strength when feeding, usually clenches its fists, has a vacant look, doesn't understand when held, keeps tilting its head up, and doesn't smile or follow objects with its eyes. After going to the hospital for a check-up, the doctor said the baby has cerebral palsy. What are the symptoms of cerebral palsy in a two-month-old infant?Doctor's answer:
Hello, the early symptoms of cerebral palsy are not obvious and gradually manifest as the child grows. For example, at 3 months, the child cannot lift their head or chest while lying prone; at 4 months, the hands do not open and remain clenched, and the head cannot be held upright while sitting; between 4 and 5 months, the child cannot roll over or reach for objects with their hands; between 5 and 6 months, the child cannot sit, and their posture is not as natural as that of a typical child; between 6 and 7 months, the legs cross when the child is supported to stand; and at 8-9 months, the child cannot crawl, etc. These indicate developmental delays. Additionally, increased muscle tone, slight stiffness in the limbs, a preference for tilting the head backward, and startle reflexes after 6 months are all early signs of cerebral palsy.Main manifestations:
1. Inflexible motor development—e.g., inability to roll over at 4-5 months, inability to crawl at 9-10 months, abnormal muscle tone and posture, low muscle tone, and different sitting and crawling postures compared to typical children.
