Features: The history of information retrieval as an integrated discipline can be traced back to the mid-20th century. Representative studies include Granfield's establishment of indexing language methods and retrieval system evaluation schemes, Salton's proposal of the vector space model and document clustering techniques, the probabilistic models developed by Roberson and Van Rijsbergen, Sparck Jones, and others, as well as Smeaton's research and development of retrieval technologies based on computer linguistics. These studies and experiments have had a significant impact on the research objectives, principles, and methods in the field of information retrieval training until the late 1980s. Although their research achievements and design ideas were primarily conducted in an artificial or virtual environment simulating document retrieval, even with certain procedural assumptions, their findings laid the foundation for the theoretical and methodological framework of information retrieval as a course centered around the "query-retrieval" model. Traditional assignment indexing and services primarily focused on standardized query formulation constitute the core conceptual system, methods, and principles of this model.
